In Switzerland, you are free to choose your therapist—you decide for yourself which practice you would like to be treated at, even if your doctor makes a recommendation. You can change at any time. The only restrictions are appointment availability or specialized therapies.

Regulations, costs, and insurance

Regulations, costs, and insurance

Validity of the regulation

The first appointment must take place within 5 weeks of the date of issue of the prescription. If the 9 sessions are not sufficient, you will need to obtain another medical prescription. In most cases, a quick phone call to the doctor who issued the first prescription will suffice. Otherwise, contact your therapist, who will help you organize the new prescription.

Without prescription or private payer

You can also take advantage of physical therapy as a private payer without a doctor's prescription.

Regulations, costs, and insurance

Costs and billing

Illness: If prescribed by a doctor, basic insurance covers the costs minus a 10% deductible. Billing is handled directly by the relevant health insurer.

Accident: Accident insurance covers the full costs. Billing is handled directly by the accident insurance company.

Private payers: Without a doctor's prescription, you are responsible for the costs yourself. Billing is handled privately by you.

Massage: Costs covered by health insurance

Basic insurance does not cover the costs of massages.

Depending on your supplementary insurance, part of the costs may be reimbursed. We are EMR-approved for:

Medical & therapeutic questions

Acute symptoms: Physical therapy? Family doctor? Emergency?

Important: As a physiotherapy practice, we can only treat you with a doctor's prescription, unless it is a service that does not require a prescription (e.g., preventive measures).

To your family doctor:

  • newly occurring severe pain with no known cause
  • Sudden restrictions of movement
  • Suspicion of a serious illness or structural injury

Your family doctor can assess the situation medically and, if necessary, issue a prescription for physical therapy.

To the emergency room:

  • Numbness or paralysis
  • Severe pain with fever and chills
  • Accidents with suspected broken bones
  • Loss of bladder or bowel control

If you are unsure, please call us—we will be happy to help you.
